The Croydon & Bromley Branch of the School of Economic Science was established in 1976. It offers regular introductory courses in practical philosophy, and other occasional courses and events.
The Introductory philosophy courses are also offered at the Bromley Arts Council owned Ripley Arts Centre, Bromley.
Many people who attend the introductory course decide to continue their study and practice of philosophy, and there are ongoing classes to provide for this. The opportunity to take up the practice of meditation is offered after a few terms' attendance.
The School of Economic Science is a registered educational charity, founded in 1937. It has numerous Branches around Great Britain and there are affiliated Schools in many countries around the world.
The School is a centre of spiritual and practical knowledge and enquiry. Its aim is to help individuals lead a fuller, richer and more useful life. The main subject explored in the School today is practical, living philosophy, based on the philosophy of Advaita, or unity.
Courses in economics with justice are also offered at some locations. These aim to show how a more equitable distribution of wealth can be achieved while leaving the world in as good a condition as we find it, or better. In addition, the School offers a range of other courses, seminars, workshops, concerts and lectures. Information about these appears on the main school web site.
